Police arrest 1 of 3 men charged in ambush shooting of Camden police detectives

Authorities have arrested one of the three men charged with attempted murder in connection with the ambush shooting of two undercover police detectives in Camden almost two weeks ago.

Police said Saturday night that they arrested Juan Figueroa without incident in Gloucester City, N.J.

“We continue to close in on Ammar Hall and Alexander Dejesus who are still considered armed and dangerous,” said Camden County Police Chief Scott Thompson in a statement. “We encourage both suspects to turn themselves in peacefully.”

Authorities announced Friday that they have charged Figueroa, Hall, and Dejesus with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses in connection with the Aug. 7 shooting of the two Camden detectives.

The detectives were working undercover in South Camden, sitting in an unmarked car at a red light, when a white van pulled up around 8:30 p.m.

Two men got out of the van, approached the detectives’ vehicle, and fired 25 rounds in seven seconds, police said.

The detectives returned fire, but are not believed to have struck any of the suspects. The detectives sustained minor injuries, but have been released from the hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.

Police are still offering a $60,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of the other two suspects. Anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of Dejesus and Hall are asked to call the Camden County Police Department at (856) 757-7042.
