Friday: Free Donuts for Pirates
In observance of Talk like a Pirate Day, all Philadelphia Krispy Kreme locations will be giving out free donuts to customers who break out their pirate speak and attire. For talking like a pirate while ordering, each pirate customer earns one free glazed donut. And for a full dozen free, customers must come dressed in full pirate attire (measured by at least three of the listed accessories on the website). Are you plum out of eye patches? No worries, there are some fun downloadable accessories on the Krispy Kreme pirate page! And please leave swords at home… ’tis a peaceful gathering.
Saturday: PHS Fall Festival at the Navy Yard
Shop, eat and grow! Hosted by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Fall Festival at the Navy Yard is not to be missed! Music by several artists and bands, food vendors, crafts and games for kids, a harvest market, all-things-gardening (including a beer garden), and the uber-poular Franklin Flea will all be happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. And as always, new and existing PHS members receive free plants.
Saturday: Art Exhibition Opening at the High Point Cafe
Come to the Allens Lane Train Station from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for an opening celebration of Mindy Flexer’s Art School. The show runs through the end of October, and is open every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy the paper mache creatures, felt quilt squares and paintings made by Flexer’s students, who range in age from 5 to 80 years old.
Join Philadelphia’s own Sonia Sanchez for an afternoon exploration of peace! This year’s Footprints of Peace program will weave art and poetry throughout the galleries and auditoriums with poets, singers, storytellers, artists, including the work of over 100 Philadelphia school children. Celebrate International Peace Day and Peace Day Philly! at the Penn Museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for children 5 and under.
Sunday: Explore Arab Heritage at Morris Arboretum
The Morris Arboretum, in conjunction with Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, will host a day of culture and connection with Arab Heritage. Activities include music from the Takht Ensemble, hands-on activities and demonstrations of traditional Arabic art, and arboretum tours highlighting species from Arab countries. Program is included with garden admission or arboretum membership and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
