An “ozone action day” is in effect, according to the National Weather Service.

According to airnow.gov, the air at the Jersey Shore is within the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” level, meaning that the air quality may impact sensitive groups.

The National Weather Service advises of unhealthy ozone levels today “due to hot and humid conditions, mostly sunny skies, and light west winds early becoming northwest by the evening hours,” according to an advisory.

The alert advises sensitive groups — the very young, elderly and persons with respiratory diseases, such as asthma — to avoid strenuous activity during the afternoon and early evening hours.
