Government seeks more than $4 million dollars from Fumo

Former state Senator Vincent Fumo will be back in federal court on Thursday.  A judge will consider how much money Fumo has to forfeit as a result of his fraud convictions.

Federal prosecutors say the fraud committed by Vince Fumo includes overpayment to Senate employees who worked on his reelection campaigns, more than $90,000 worth of tools purchased for him by Citizen’s Alliance and yachting trips bankrolled by the Independence Seaport Museum.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John Pease says the fraud totals more than $4 million.

Pease: “Citizens Alliance paid a quarter million dollars  for polls.  They paid $20,000 for a lawsuit to fund against Mr. Jubelirer a state senator. Citizen’s Alliance paid for automobiles, they paid for lots of other things.”

Pease says his office has put a lien on Fumo’s properties, including his Green Street mansion, his shore homes in New Jersey and Florida, and the farm outside of Harrisburg.

Money from the forfeiture goes to the federal government.  It’s separate from restitution, which compensates the victims.
