N.J. to offer gun buyback in Mercer County
Officials will announce a gun buyback program for Mercer County on Thursday.
The $100,000 program will be carried out through the cooperative efforts of the Attorney General’s Office, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Trenton police, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and faith-based groups.
A recent buyback program in Camden netted 1,137 guns, surpassing the previous state record of 700 weapons from a 2009 Essex County event.
Officials said they believed the Connecticut school shooting could have led people to say they didn’t want guns around the house.
