N.J. returns $125M to residents
New Jersey returned a record $125.1 million in unclaimed property and funds to residents during the last fiscal year.
The Unclaimed Property Administration says 70,762 people submitted claims during the 2014 fiscal year. That’s up from nearly 62,000 in fiscal year 2013 when $107.5 million was paid out.
This year’s claims included $1.3 million to a Hudson County family for an estate, $424,000 to an Ocean County man for bank checks and $377,000 received by a Bergen County woman mostly for health care policy benefits and bank accounts.
State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff says by securing the funds, residents can reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
