N.J. puts fresh crime data on website
New Jersey State Police are now putting up-to-date local crime data on a website.
In the past, the data collected for the national Uniform Crime Report was made publicly available annually.
The state said Friday that it will be updated weekly on the new site.
So far, many communities have not submitted crime data for January 2013. But the reports available show that the crime index in Camden was down by 18 percent from January 2012 to last month and that Trenton had more robberies but fewer assaults in last month than in the same period a year ago.
The data is preliminary and subject to corrections.
