Newark Police release composite sketch of suspect in attempted luring of a child

Newark Police have developed a composite sketch of the suspect who tried to lure a teenage girl into his van last week.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. Monday November 30th at Dallas Avenue and Apple Road.  The girl was walking on Dallas Avenue when she approached by a black male driving a white van, who asked her if she needed a ride.  She declined, at which point the man said “get in.”  The girl fled on foot, and the van was last seen heading westbound on Dallas Avenue toward Elkton Road.  The man is described as black, 30-to-50 years old, with little hair on his head, a thin scruffy beard and several tattoos on his neck.  The van was an older-style white “work van” without rear or side windows, with a rusted dent on the lower rear passenger side.  Anyone with information on who the man might be is asked to call Newark Police at 302-366-7110 extension 135.  Information may also be sent by text to 302NPD / TIP411, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
