Mixed use residential tower on Arch Street gets OK from planning commission

Developer Eric Blumenfeld got a step closer to starting construction on 170-foot tall mixed use residential, retail and office development at 1900 Arch Street.

The proposal includes 236 apartments, nearly 10,000 square feet of office space, and two restaurants.

“We hope to begin construction as early as August or September,” he said.

When Blumenfeld presented to the planning commission for information only in January, he was hoping to start construction in the spring.

Blumenfeld said he had not reached community agreements with the Kennedy House condominiums residents association or the Logan Square association, and he planned to ask the ZBA for a continuance. He predicted an agreement would be finished in weeks.

Representatives from Kennedy House and Logan Square Civic said agreements would likely be reached, but could take longer than that. They are supportive of the project.

The planning commission gave its support to the variance requests,  which relate to the height and density of the building.
