A Republican Congressional retreat will be held in Philadelphia over the next few days (Weds-Fri). The mayor is urging peaceful protests.

Mayor Jim Kenney is pleading with protesters to express their opions without damaging property.

“I know people will be interested in expressing their First Amendment views to them and to the president ,and that’s a time-honored enshrined in our Constitution. I would ask people to do that in a very clear voice but refrain from the damaging of any property or windows, trashcans, or things that we saw happen in Washington on Friday.”

Kenney says violence won’t help any cause.

“That does not help your case for political redress. It just solidifies people’s negative opinions about the folks who are protesting. I would ask people to be within control of themselves and their actions but be very forceful in their speech.”

The mayor says traffic in Center City could be especially messy Thursday when President Trump is expected to visit.
