Manayunk celebrates the winter solstice with drum circle, torch-lighting [gallery]

Manayunk held its first-ever winter solstice celebration on Saturday evening at Canal View Park. The event, meant to welcome the start to longer days, featured a drum circle, a bird show, torch-lighting and a bonfire.

The celebration of the winter solstice, an age-old tradition, was an opportunity to experience a “night of inspiration as we look forward to longer and lighter days,” according to Jane Lipton, executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation.
