Man killed by car lot sign knocked off wall by high winds

Police say a man was killed when he was struck at a car lot by a sign knocked off a north Philadelphia wall by high winds that have prompted a high wind warning for the region.

A police spokeswoman said the 60-year-old man was struck just before 1 p.m. Monday at the lot in the Hunting Park neighborhood.

He was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The National Weather Service posted a high wind warning for the city and surrounding areas, predicting northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 to 60 mph that could bring down trees or tree limbs and power lines and hamper travel.
