Delaware State Police say they’ve charged a 43-year-old Lewes man with raping a 78-year-old woman he knew at her Rehoboth Beach home.

Police say David Elder, a registered sex offender, was wearing a mask when he used a key to enter the woman’s home around 12:45 a.m. Monday and made advances and had physical contact with her.

Police say the woman recognized the electric bicycle Elder used to flee and called his wife. While the women were on the phone, police say Elder returned home and his wife called 911.
