Little Jimmie’s Bake House opens on Germantown Avenue [gallery]

Little Jimmie’s Bake House, the second storefront of Mt. Airy baker Jimmie Reed, opened on Friday at 6616 Germantown Ave.

Reed’s new bakery is modeled after an old-fashioned bakery and will be the wholesale and catering headquarters for his operations in addition to a cafe.

The cafe opens on the property after two years of extensive renovations as part of community development organization Mt. Airy USA’s blight-relief efforts in that section of Mt. Airy.

On site to celebrate the grand opening were community members, Eighth District Councilwoman Cindy Bass and members Mt. AIry USA.

“The desire to develop this part of the avenue is born out of the believe that people should have access to quality businesses,” said Anuj Gupta, executive director of Mt. Airy USA.

The opening marks “the completion of Mt. Airy USA’s first wave of investment and renewal of the 6500 – 6700 blocks of Germantown Avenue,” according to the group.
