The New Castle Krispy Kreme doughnut shop will open July 1.

The store, located in front of the New Castle Farmer’s Market on North DuPont Highway, will begin serving fresh doughnuts right out of the oven beginning at 6 a.m.

“It’s a sweet kick-off to the long holiday weekend,” said Keith Morgan, CEO of Dough Nuts for Doughnuts, LLC, a local franchisee. “The residents of New Castle have been incredibly enthusiastic throughout the process, and we can’t wait to bring the joy of Krispy Kreme back to Delaware.”

To celebrate opening day, the store will be giving out prizes throughout the day. The first customer in line will win a dozen glazed doughnuts every week for a year while the next 99 customers in line will receive one glazed doughnut every month for a year. Prize winners have to be at least 10 years old.

The newly-constructed store in front of the New Castle Farmer’s Market will feature more than 15 varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, as well as bagels and coffee. The store also includes a 24-hour drive-thru.

The Delaware location will be the fifth store that Morgan and business partner Brian Zaslow have opened since 2010. They also run locations in greater Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Earlier this year, job fairs were held in New Castle County to hire nearly 100 employees for the store.

Krispy Kreme shops were once located on Route 202 in Wilmington and on Route 40 in Bear, but both were shut down a few years ago.
