EVALUATE: July Civic Design Review meeting
Tuesday, July 1, 1pm. 1515 Arch Street, Room 18-029. The Planning Commission’s Civic Design Review Committee hold its second meeting about both 1 Water Street (250 N Christopher Columbus Blvd) and further development on Penn’s Hospital campus, and take up a new review of 1924 Arch Street. Public.
VIEW: Making a Classic Modern: Frank Gehry’s Master Plan for the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Opens Tuesday, July 1. Philadelphia Museum of Art. Architect Frank Gehry has been working on a master plan to expand the Art Museum since 2006. Come see how Gehry proposes to add light, gallery space, and better circulation to the historic museum. On view through September 1, 2014. $20, discounts for students, seniors, and kids; free for members.
LEARN: Green Infrastructure: Enhancing Cities by Managing Stormwater
Wednesday, July 2, 4pm. Drexel University, Hill Conference Room, Lebow Engineering Building, 31st and Market streets. Join Villanova engineering professor Robert Traver to discuss studies in green infrastructure conducted by Villanova, with an emphasis on urban biofiltration, and how the campus is being used as a living research site. DISCUSS: Design Advocacy Group on 500 Walnut
Thursday, July 3, 8am sharp. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. Developer Tom Scannapieco and architect Cecil Baker will talk about plans to build a sliver tower facing Independence Hall at 5th and Walnut streets. Free, public.
LISTEN: Philly POPS! on Independence Mall
Thursday, July 3, 8pm. 6th and Chestnut streets. Get in the spirit with Americana performances including the 1812 Overture and the Declaration itself. BYO picnic. Free.
CELEBRATE: Independence Day Parade + Party + Fireworks
Friday, July 4, 11am-midnight. Start the 4th of July at 11am for the parade beginning at 6th and Chestnut streets. Then spend the afternoon on the Parkway for music, food, and fun. Finish the day with the 4th of July Jam concert and fireworks over Eakins Oval.
EXPLORE: Freedom BLAST!
Saturday, July 5, 10am-4pm. Fort Mifflin, Fort Mifflin and Hog Island roads. Visit this Revolutionary War fort, participate in a flag raising (10:15am), experience readings of the Declaration of Independence, take guided tours, hands-on history, and cannon demonstrations. $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for veterans, students 12 and younger. Purchase tickets in advance online.
