Interim no more: Phillies name Sandberg as skipper

    It’s official. The Philles have named Ryne Sandberg club manager.

    In removing the “interim” label from Sandberg’s job title, he becomes the 52nd manager in franchise history.

    Sandberg replaced Charlie Manuel on an interim basis back in August. Since then, Sandberg as impressed the organization, according to a piece posted today on MLB.com.

    Under Sandberg, the 25th place Phillies are 18-16, and has “received high marks from players in the clubhouse.”
