Hundreds of theater workers hit the picket lines in Philadelphia

Hundreds of theater workers hit the picket lines in Philadelphia early this morning, putting some productions in the city’s theater district in jeopardy.

WPVI-TV reports nearly 1,000 workers hit the lines at midnight.

Members of the International Alliance of Theatrical State Employees work at the Kimmel Center, the Merriam Theater and the Academy of Music.

WPVI-TV says workers received a proposal for a new contract at 11:50 p.m. Friday night, but talks were to no avail.

As a result of the dispute, the Kimmel Center has rescheduled today’s concert with singer Audra McDonald for November, according to WPVI-TV.
