Holmesburg accident takes teen girl’s legs

A Holmesburg girl was shopping in Holmesburg with her mother Sunday afternoon when a car accident took both her legs.

Gioanna Romano was with her mother at the shopping center at Frankford Avenue and Welsh Road when an elderly woman who was trying to pull into a handicap parking space lost control of her car.

The woman hit Romano, 15, pinning her against a wall. Romano was rushed to Aria Health-Torresdale where both her legs were amputated. She has since been taken to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania where she’s in extremely critical condition.

Police continue to investigate the incident. It’s unclear if charges have been filed.
