Governor Christie gets ‘rockstar’ reception on Seaside Heights boardwalk

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was back on the boardwalk at Seaside Heights on Saturday, two days after a wind-swept fire destroyed four blocks of the famous amusement pier.

Christie was treated like a rock star as he was mobbed by onlookers and well-wishers.

Many thanked the governor for coming to the shore town that was still recovering from last fall’s Superstorm Sandy when disaster struck again.

Later, Christie said it was important for him to be here.

The popular Republican and possible presidential contender in 2016 also planned to meet privately with 30 of the more than 50 business owners who suffered losses in Thursday’s fire.

Christie says the state is planning an aggressive response to help the business owners rebuild and to repair the iconic boardwalk.
