Gov. Chris Christie praised during Irene

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie received good praises and local and national recognition during last week’s Hurricane Irene. In contrast to Christie’s being in Disney World during this past winter’s snowstorm, he urged his constituents to “get the hell off the beach,” when evacuation should have been taking place.

Gov. Christie’s words helped saved lives, as more than 1 million people were reported to have evacuated New Jersey’s southern tip and shoreline, according to the Press of Atlantic City. More than 16,000 people were found in shelters, during the height of the storm. 

Many New Jersey residents had the chance to see their governor on a more personal level, as he shared his experience during 1999’s, hurricane Floyd.

Christie made a few mistakes however, one of which, caused him to mispronounce a Princeton firefighter dead. Christie later apologized.

It was a good week for New Jersey’s governor. Democrats who would usually attack Christie for this past winter’s mistake, have remained silent.
