Gloucester Township court to have drug counselor

A substance abuse counselor will become a presence in a southern New Jersey courtroom.

The Gloucester Township Police Department will announce the initiative during a news conference on Thursday.

The licensed drug and alcohol counselor will serve as an advocate and assist those suffering from addiction. The counselor will help defendants learn about services aimed at breaking the addiction.

The police department says heroin addiction is destroying families and fostering crime.
