Girl rescued from near drowning on Schuylkill River

Firefighters rescued a 7-year-old girl from being swept away by the river’s current at the Schuylkill Canal Park in Mont Clare Sunday afternoon, reports the Pottstown Mercury.

The girl was celebrating Memorial Day with her family at the park, when bystanders on the Mont Clare Bridge noticed she was moving quickly downstream.

After 20 minutes in the water, the girl was rescued and later taken to Phoenixville Hospital to recover.
