A little known part of the “Welcome America” festivities could be a tasty treat for those in the Independence Mall area Monday.

Jim Cuorato of the Independence Visitors Center at Sixth and Market streets said the center is continuing a small, sweet Independence Day tradition.

“We celebrate America’s birthday with our Termini Brothers cupcake giveaway,” he said. “Termini Brothers builds a five-tiered birthday cake, red white and blue, and also makes 2,500 red white and blue cupcakes … we give those out starting at 1 p.m.”

The treats are given out free of charge, he said, first come, first served.

“We start at 1 p.m., and all the cupcakes are given out by 3 o’clock,” he said.

This is the fifth year of the giveaway.
