Manayunk on Ice

Friday, February 8 – Sunday, February 10, all day. Main Street, Manayunk. Extreme ice carving takes Main Street in Manayunk for the weekend as master ice carvers line the street. The weekend kicks off on Friday night with an ice bonfire at 6pm, followed by two days of chainsaw-wielding carvers shaping ice into interesting creations. Free.

30th Street Craft Market

Saturday, February 9, 11am – 5pm. 30th Street Station. 30 local artisans will transform 30th Street Station into a craft fair for the day just in time for Valentine’s Day. For a list of participating crafters, check online. Free.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Saturday, February 9- Sunday, February 10. 10th Street, Chinatown. Celebrate the Year of the Snake on the streets of Chinatown this weekend. At Saturday’s Flower Market (10am-3pm at 10th and Vine) pick up candies, traditional New Years’ treats and good luck flowers, as well as handmade lanterns by seniors down the street at On Lok Senior House. Two food trucks – Sugar Philly and Foo Truck – will also be on hand. Then Saturday night ring in the new year the Philadelphia Suns will give a Lion Dance performance at 11pm at 10th and Race. On Sunday there will be a Lion Dance Parade from 11am-2pm. Free.

Ride the Love Train

Sunday, February 10, 2-5pm. Tour departs from SEPTA Headquarters, 1234 Market Street. To celebrate love in a decidedly Philadelphia way, head out on a special Love Train tour of Steve Powers’  A Love Letter for You mural project along the Market-Frankford El train. Mural Arts has chartered a special SEPTA train, to give a low-speed tour of the 50 project murals on a specially decorated Valentine’s Day train. The tour will be followed by a reception with bubbly and snacks at SEPTA HQ. $25, tickets available online.
