Chinese New Year Celebration

Saturday, February 2nd, 11am – 4pm, Penn Museum, 3260 South Street. Celebrate the Year of the Snake and learn about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout Asia at this annual, daylong extravaganza in the China Gallery. It’s a family-friendly day featuring performances, martial and healing arts demonstrations, and folk tales, culminating wtih a drum roll and lion dance parade. Free with museum admission ($12, $10 for seniors/military personnel/$8 for kids 6-17/Free for museum members or Penn staff or students).

Dickens’ Birthday Party

Sunday, February 3, 2pm. University of the Sciences, Griffith Hall, 43rd Street between Woodland and Chester. To celebrate Charles Dickens’ 201st birthday join the Friends of Clark Park for cake and short readings from Dickens’ fiction and letters. Free.

Fleisher Art Memorial: 13th Annual Print Love-In

Sunday, February 3, three sessions from 10am-7pm. Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine Street. Fleisher’s 13th annual Print Love-In offers an introduction to printmaking including lithography, silkscreening, and wood and linoleum blocks. Practice beginner printmaking (no experience necessary) by making Valentine’s Day cards. Sessions 1 (10am) and 2 (1pm) are open to ages 5 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult). Session 3 (5pm) is limited to adults 21 and over. Register in advance, space is limited. $10 per person.
