Dog of the Week: Flora
UPDATED Feb. 8, 2012 – Flora has been adopted!
Hello ladies and gents! My name is Flora (A14945644) and I’m a sweet sassy girl biding my time at ACCT, just waitin’ around for my fur-ever home!
I am 1 to 2 years old, and I while I was found as a stray, I have obviously been a beloved pet at some point or another. I am a terrier/pit mix. As you can see, I have very striking black and white markings, and I would make a beautiful addition to any family.
When I was brought to the shelter, my toenails were painted red! Now, I would like to say that I’m smart and coordinated enough to paint my own toenails, and while I am very smart, I don’t have opposable thumbs, so it’s unlikely I painted them myself. Somebody used to love me and I need to find someone else to love me again!
On the topic of my being so smart, I already know “sit,” I am super-duper trainable and I would do great in a home that wanted to continue my training. I have wonderful manners overall. I don’t jump or get mouthy. I know I am supposed to just snuggle up against your legs when I want pets and not jump on you, so I do. I am a big leg-snuggler!
I need a little work on walking on the leash, but since I am so trainable, I am learning really fast. I have a Pen Pal, a special volunteer at the shelter who works with me, and she is teaching me to have better leash manners. She also plays fetch with me and is teaching me drop, touch, and down. She also gives me lots of belly rubs. I love belly rubs!
I show friendly interest in other dogs, but I am not always the most comfortable around them when they are close up. It’s very important that I meet any dogs I might live with to make sure I am comfortable with them. At the shelter, I see lots of other dogs when I am out for a walk, and I am always happy and excited to see them, but when my Pen Pal calls my name, I always turn right back around to her. I love dogs, but I love people more! I love people so much that I should definitely meet any young kids in the family to make sure I am not too loving for them. I also did not show any interest in cats.
I am a super-duper happy girl and I want all of us to be friends! Will you be my forever family and come adopt me? Or at least foster me? If you would like more information, please contact my Pen Pal at ashearin AT vet.upenn.edu. She will be happy to tell you what a lady I am!
