Diner featured in Silver Linings Playbook novel damaged by fire

A fire on Sunday night heavily damaged the diner that was featured prominently in the novel Silver Linings Playbook.

Philly.com reports that the fire began in the basement of the Crystal Lake Diner in Haddon Township, N.J. and destroyed the interior of the building. Chief County Fire Marshal Paul Sandrock said firefighters made it into the basement but the first floor collapsed and they had to retreat. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

In the novel, Silver Linings Playbook, chronicles the tale of Pat, who returns home to Collingswood, N.J. to reclaim his life and identity after spending four years in a mental institution following an incident he cannot remember. Local landmarks Knight’s Park in Collingswood and the Crystal Lake Diner feature prominently in the novel. A movie adaptation starring Robert DeNiro, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence substitutes thee Crystal Lake Diner with the Llanerch Diner in Upper Darby, Pa.
