Dîner en damp
For the fourth year, Philadelphia hosted dinner-in-white or the Dîner en Blanc. Thousands of people, all wearing white, dined “al fresco” at a secret location, which turned out to be the Navy Yard, Thursday night.
Despite a downpour, the open-air event maintained its signature grace and beauty.
In fact, the inclement weather added a drop more drama to a dinner with a lot of drama already baked into it.
Dîner en Blanc is a lark wherein 4,500 ticket-holders are guided to a previously undisclosed location to dine together. All must abide by a strict, all-white dress code.
Organizer Natanya DiBona encouraged patrons to bring umbrellas or ponchos — in addition to their own food and their own furniture.
Thousands heeded that advice and partook of the unique urban experience.
