Deputy Finance Director Thompson takes seat on Philadelphia City Planning Commission

Saskia Thompson, City of Philadelphia deputy finance director and the executive director of the Office of Property Data, has been sworn is as the newest city planning commissioner.

Thompson takes the place of Finance Director Rob Dubow, who formerly sat on the commission.

Thompson began working for the city in February. The Office of Property Data was newly created to manage all property-based information in one place. Once fully established, her office will “ensure that all business processes related to the development and maintenance of property data are efficient, effective and customer-service focused,” according to Thompson’s bio.

From 2002 to 2011, Thompson worked for the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, as a member of the City Manager’s team. Her wide variety of responsibilities including resolving city council issues, focusing resources to best meet neighborhood concerns, finding ways to improve citizen’s access to city government and supervising city council staff.

Prior to that, Thompson was the assistant to the mayor for public policy in Detroit, where she worked on downtown development initiatives, transportation policy, technology and improving city systems.

In 1996, she earned a master’s degree in urban planning from the  University of Michigan, and now lives in University City.
