Suspect in custody after shooting Delaware trooper

A Delaware State Trooper was shot this morning while executing a search warrant in Bear.

The trooper and other members of the Special Operations Response Team were executing a search warrant on Powell Court in the community of Red Lion Chase in Bear. When the team entered the home, a man inside the residence opened fire, hitting the trooper.

The trooper, who was not identified by officials, was struck in the upper torso, but the trooper’s body armor prevented a serious or life-threatening injury.

The trooper was treated at Christiana Hospital for minor injuries and was released. The shooter, also unidentified by the DSP, was taken into custody without any return fire.

Officials said the investigation into the incident is still in its early stages. Details on what the original search warrant was for and the charges by the shooter will be facing will be released at a later time.
