Delaware Tech hosts 4th annual Gingerbread House Competition

Gum drop lights, peppermint walkways, lifesaver wreaths and roof shingles made from cereal – those are just some of the creative ways culinary enthusiasts decorated their gingerbread houses as part of the fourth annual gingerbread house competition hosted by the culinary arts program at Delaware Technical Community College.

Licorice, candy canes, gummy bears, snow caps and other candy pieces also adorned intricately designed displays.

The houses can be viewed at the Hilton Wilmington/Christiana until Dec. 23rd.

Organizers outlined rules for making the gingerbread houses, and the houses had to be submitted to the competition on Dec. 15.  All building materials had to be edible and no wrappers or sticks were permitted.

Some of this year’s gingerbread house themes included a riverboat, carousal, Rapunzel and the house from the movie A Christmas Story.

A winner will be chosen for each of the three categories: Best in Show, Best Adult entry and Best Youth entry. Winners will be notified on Dec. 22.
