Police are still searching for one of the five shoplifting suspects after their getaway van crashed into a State Police cruiser on I-95.

Police say the suspects took tools and others supplies from the Home Depot store at Peoples Plaza on Route 40.  The van they used to get away from the scene was spotted by a State Trooper near the intersection of Rt. 40 and 896.  State Police Cpl. John Day says troopers weren’t able to keep up with the van because of “the reckless manner in which the van was being driven.”

Once on I-95, the suspects traveled up the shoulder due to the high volume of traffic.  As the driver of the van tried to merge from the shoulder to the travel lane near Rt. 273, he crashed into a State Police cruiser which had its emergency lights activated.

After the crash, all five suspects fled the van.  Four were caught, while the fifth got away.  The four suspects were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment.  Two were treated and released, the other two were admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  The trooper was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and he has been released.
