Death penalty opponents won a victory in the Delaware Senate Thursday, but face another challenge in the State House.

Senators voted 11 to 9 in favor of Sen. Karen Peterson’s SB 40, which would eliminate the death penalty in Delaware. Inmates currently on death row would still be eligible for execution.

The vote was mixed among party lines with Republicans and Democrats on each side of the vote.
