Delaware detectives investigate human skull discovery

An investigation is underway after a New Jersey man found a human skull floating in the water around 6 p.m. on Sunday in Delaware City.

Delaware State Police visited the scene immediately to search for other findings and returned Monday for more clues in the water off of Pea Patch Island near Delaware City. The search was sparked after an unidentified New Jersey man said he found the human skull four feet from the shore.  According to the man, who was in the area with family to go swimming, the skull was the only thing located. No bones were found in the water.

In the meantime, the skull was first turned in to authorities in Carney’s Point, New Jersey, then later to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Delaware for identification.
