Delaware company plans to give away new home
As the season of giving begins, the owners of a small investment company and a non-profit organization in Delaware are coming together to address homelessness in the state.
The partnership will also house three local homeless families as part of an event called Home 4 the Holidays.
Keep Selling Property of New Castle is planning to renovate a single home near Route 141 to give away to one lucky family. However, project leaders are looking for volunteers who can help by donating their time to either paint or do electrical work to ensure everything is completed by next month.
“This has always been a dream of ours. To be able to give back to someone in need right at their time of need,” said Shay Hunter, co-owner of Keep Selling Property.
Two additional families will receive apartment packages with paid security deposits and rent for one month. The Delaware Homeless Planning Council has also joined the effort and will host the home giveaway which will take place on December 20th. That’s also the time DHPC will release a 10-year plan to end homelessness.
This is the first year for Home 4 the Holidays but it’s expected to become an annual event that will house both veterans and homeless families in the future.
“First and foremost, we want to provide the general blessings of homeownership. Second, we want to inspire other Delawareans to play an active role in meeting the needs within our communities,” said Kimberly Broomer of Keep Selling Property.
Anyone interested in volunteering their time to complete renovation work can call 302-250-0175 or go online to contribute a monetary donation.
