Councilman Jones’ Block Captain Boot Camp features pep talks and community-building discussions [photos]

Referring to his sixth annual Block Captain Boot Camp, which was held Saturday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, a post on Fourth District City Councilman Curtis Jones’ Facebook page noted, “What a day! [It] was unforgettable.”

The event, held in Northwest Philadelphia to provide leadership and organizational training for on-the-ground community organizers, drew an estimated 300 block captains, according to the host.

Among those on hand to address attendees were former Gov. Ed Rendell, former Mayor Wilson Goode Sr., U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, City Council President Darrell Clarke and Councilmembers Jones, Blondell Reynolds Brown and Bill Greenlee.

NewsWorks was there to capture photographs of the event.
