Contractor selected for Wayne Junction rebuild
Plans for the reconstruction of the Wayne Junction regional rail station moved forward Thursday, with the SEPTA Board awarding a series of contracts to build a new station.
The board awarded Neshaminy Constructors Inc. a $15.2 million contract for general contracting services. It also awarded a $2.5 million contract for electrical construction services to Westcott Electrical Co.
The project is being funded with the help of a $3.9 million Federal Transit Administration grant. The remainder is being paid for with a SEPTA bond issue.
Construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the year and take up to three years, according to SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch. Service will continue during construction.
The station serves five different regional rail lines. The station is also the anchor to a proposed transit-oriented development project in Germantown.
