Christmas tree(cycling) starts this week

Wondering what to do with your undecorated, crispy Christmas greens?

Rather than leaving your Christmas tree out with the trash to be landfilled, you can give the greens new life by recycling them.

You can take your tree to the City’s Sanitation Convenience Centers for recycling from January 3-14. But if that’s not so convenient for you, this weekend’s neighborhood treecycling events might help.

On Saturday, January 7, greenlimbs will be mulching trees outside of the South Street Whole Foods from 10am-4pm, along with Queen Village Neighbors Association, Bella Vista Civic Association, Washington Square West Civic Association, South Street Headhouse District and Society Hill Civic Association. And all over the city, neighborhood groups have partnered with greenlimbs to collect trees and wreaths for recycling this weekend.

Trees collected by greenlimbs will be mulched and chipped for use in the city’s parks, gardens and recreation fields. There is a suggested donation of $3 per wreath and $5 per tree to help offset costs. This year curbside pickup is available ($5 for wreaths and $15 for trees) if you can’t make it to the collection site. • Columbus Square Park, 13th and Reed streets, 10am -4pm (with Passyunk Square Civic Association, East Passyunk Crossing, Newbold Neighbors, and Lower Moyamensing Neighborhood Association)
• Liberty Lands Park, 3rd and Poplar streets, 10am-4pm (with Northern Liberties Neighbors Association)
• Bartram’s Garden, 54th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard, 9:30am-12:30pm
• Marconi Plaza, Broad and Oregon, 1-4pm

• 22nd and Winter, 9:30am-12:30pm (with Logan Square Neighborhood Association)
• 22nd and Brown, 1-4pm (with Friends of Eastern State Penitentiary)
• Norwood Fontbonne School, Sunset Ave, 9:30am-12:30pm with Green in Chestnut Hill
• Gabbie’s Garden, Chew Avenue, 1-4pm with East Mt. Airy Neighbors
