Celebrating 100-year reign of Fonthill Castle in Bucks County

This year, the Fonthill Castle in Doylestown is celebrating its 100th birthday.

Noted tile maker Henry Mercer built the 44-room castle out of reinforced concrete.

The interior walls, floors and ceilings are decorated with an incredible array of his handcrafted tiles.

Mercer’s uncle had lost a priceless collection of European armor in a fire – and Mercer was determined that his own showcase would never burn.
