Castle-O’Donnell in last weekend of the campaign
The national spotlight is on Delaware and the republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat once held by Vice-President Joe Biden.
Congressman Mike Castle hit the Jake’s Hamburger lunchtime crowd. Christine O’Donnell visited the cafeteria of the Newark Senior Center. Both are campaigning through this final weekend. Both would like Republicans to vote them as the party’s nominee in this Tuesday’s GOP state primary.
Both candidates have sent out a flurries of electronic mail touting their endorsements. The O’Donnell camp is pumping up her endorsement by former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Palin put up a paragraph of support for O’Donnell on her Facebook page. She wrote, “Christine will help usher in the real change we need to get America on the right track.”
Castle has had a series of Delaware’s elite poltical team coming out with their support. The latest being former Governor Pete Dupont. In a statement he said Castle’s “common-sense approach…is really needed to turn things around in DC”.
The surrogates also seem to doing the negative campaigning instead of the candidates. The Delaware state GOP is questioning O’Donnell’s finances. The Tea Party Express is holding rallies in support of O’Donnell through the weekend. They have also begun radio and TV advertising on O’Donnell’s behalf.
It all comes to a head on Tuesday when GOP voters will be the candidate to face off against New Castle County executive Chris Coons. Coons is unopposed. He has also begun some TV on several cable channels seen in Delaware.
