Car flips into Delaware canal, driver charged

A wild ride for a Dover man ends upside down in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

23-year-old William Ritter driving too fast along a dirt road beside the canal on Monday afternoon, according to Natural Resources Police. He lost control of his car, which then hit a telephone pole and ended up partially submerged upside down in the canal.

Ritter was able to escape and walk to a nearby construction site to call for help. He was treated for minor injuries. Ritter has been charged with reckless driving and damaging state property at the C & D Canal Conservation Area.
