Captured baboon remains in amusement park quarantine

After a couple days on the loose in New Jersey, the baboon who escaped Six Flags Great Adventure will spend the next two weeks in quarantine to make sure she’s healthy.

In what Toms River Patch reports is only the second escape from the park’s jungle since it opened in 1974, the baboon somehow broke free last week. Park officials couldn’t find any holes in the fence around the baboons’ habitat, but say they’ll step up security efforts.

Most of the baboons are microchipped, but the park will install electric fencing and security cameras to keep tabs on the mammals, and will take a more regular count of them. Since the animals are not counted daily, park officials weren’t at first if the baboon roaming New Jersey had come from the facility.
