Legislation in New Jersey that would make it easier for residents to sell homes in flood-prone areas has passed in the state Assembly.
The Star-Ledger reports the bill, A-4267, would allow municipalities and counties to use open space funds to purchase homes. The homes would be purchased at market value, with the land used for either conservation or recreation.
The Star-Ledger says many towns could have a difficult time raising money through an open space tax to purchase homes.
