Big leads for Dems in latest Delaware poll

Confirming the conventional wisdom that Delaware is a solidly Democratic state, the latest poll numbers in the state’s Congressional races show big leads for the incumbents.

The University of Delaware Center for Political Communication poll sampled 902 Delawareans from September 10-14. The results showed big leads for Senator Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney, both Democrats, in their reelection bids.

The poll shows Coons with more than double the support of his Republican challenger Kevin Wade. Fifty percent of those polled said they would vote for Coons, compared to just 23 percent who said they would vote for Wade. Twelve percent were undecided or refused to answer. Green Party candidate Andrew Groff recieved just 6 percent.

In the U.S. House race, incumbent John Carney led his Republican opponent Rose Izzo by an even wider margin. Carney received support from 52 percent of those polled, while Izzo only garnered 17 percent. Libertarian Scott Gesty received 7 percent, and the Green Party’s Bernie August polled just 4 percent. Twelve percent either refused to respond or said that they didn’t know who they would vote for.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points.
