Arrest in Delaware burglary spree

A Maryland man is facing 28 charges after being accused in a string of burglaries, most at Suburban Plaza stores in Newark.

49-year-old Norman Barnes was arrested at an Elkton, Maryland motel after police identified him from video surveillance captured during a recent string of robberies in Newark.

Police say Barnes targeted Suburban Plaza businesses on several occasions starting in May through August.  The majority of the burglaries happened on Aug. 23 when six businesses were burglarized and three others were victims of an attempted burglary.

Barnes, who is homeless, faces eight counts of burglary, three counts of attempted burglary and other charges in Newark.  He’s being held in Elkton where he faces charges in connection with two burglaries in Cecil County.
