Archbishop Ryan student dies after being struck by car

An Archbishop Ryan High School freshman died yesterday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Academy Road. Timothy Connors, 15, was struck around 3:30 p.m. outside the school.

“Timothy was an engaging student who had come to us from Our Lady of Port Richmond School and was a proud member of the class of 2014,” said Michael McArdle, President of Archbishop Ryan said in a statement released by the school. He added, “His loss is one that will be felt throughout the entire Ryan community. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Timothy and his family.”

Students and teachers held an impromptu vigil last night, and a mass will be arranged for Connors. Counselors will be on hand at the school to help students cope.

Connors was pronounced dead a short time later after being rushed to the hospital. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The driver of the vehicle who struck the teen stopped at the scene.
