GREEN: Arbrew Day

Friday, April 25. 4:30pm – 8pm. Frankford Hall (1210 Frankford Ave.), City Tap House (3925 Walnut St.), Kite & Key (1836 Callowhill St.), Grey Lodge (6235 Frankford Ave.) and Bourbon Blue (2 Rector St.) A clever partnership between TreePhilly and Yards Brewing Company, five bars will give away free TreePhilly trees on a first-come first-serve basis this “Arbrew” Day. The TreePhilly Mobile Tree Truck will stop by each establishment to provide tree-care information. Yards Brewing Company will give away t-shirts to celebrate the event and a gift card to their tasting room to the winner of the Arbrew Day photo contest.  

GAZE: Schuylkill River Star Party

Friday, April 25. 7:30pm – 10pm. Schuylkill Banks at the Walnut Street Bridge. Grab a blanket and kick back on the Schuylkill Banks for an evening of stargazing with the Schuylkill River Development Company, Franklin Institute and Philadelphia Science Festival. Franklin Institute will bring telescopes and star maps to help attendees identify the stars they spot. Free.

CLEAN: Wissahickon East Project Park/Creek Clean-up

Saturday, April 26. 9am – 1pm. Anderson Road and Woodbrook Lane. As part of the annual Friends of Wissahickon/Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association creek clean-up, volunteers will focus their efforts to begin clearing the Cresheim Creek as it flows through the Wissahickon East neighborhood park. Work will be directed by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. No experience is needed and tools, gloves and light refreshments will be provided. Free

VOLUNTEER: Olney Rec Center clean-up

Saturday, April 26. 9am – 3pm. Olney Rec Center, 6001 A St. Help beautify the Olney Rec Center and its grounds this Saturday. The Phillie Phanatic may make a guest appearance, and because the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership is hosting this Comcast Cares Day event, TTF will be eligible for future grant opportunities from Comcast. PITCH IN: Schuylkill Banks Volunteer Open House

Saturday, April 26. 9am – 12pm. Schuylkill Banks, under the Walnut Street Bridge. The 2014 Schuylkill Banks Volunteer season has arrived and the Schuylkill River Development Corporation is offering this afternoon volunteer orientation – an opportunity to informally discuss your availability and interests. Volunteers are needed May through October. Free

PURUSE: Lehigh Ave Arts Festival

Saturday, April 26. 12pm – 8pm. Portside Arts Center, 2531 E. Lehigh Ave. The seven-year-old Lehigh Avenue Arts returns to the Fishtown/Port Richmond section of Lehigh Ave this Saturday. The day-long arts festival will feature local artists, an antique car show, kids crafts, raffles, a moon bounce and more. This year the festival will introduce The Philly Puff, the city’s first-ever inflatable sculpture contest. Free.

ROW: Free boating on the Delaware River

Sunday, April 27. 11am – 4pm. Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard. In conjunction with the Philadelphia Science Festival, the Independence Seaport Museum will offer all Sunday visitors a free boat rental, included in the cost of a general admission ticket. Throughout the rest of the season, the museum will offer $8 single kayak rentals, $15 double kayak rentals, $10 small row boat and $15 large row boat rentals.
