AP: Person struck by Amtrak Acela train in Delaware

Delaware State Police say a person has been struck by an Amtrak Acela train near Newport.

The train was traveling south from Wilmington toward Washington on Saturday about 1:45 p.m. when it abruptly stopped. A body was found near Banning Park. Police say the incident remains under investigation.

The News Journal reports passengers were told that the stop was caused by a “trespasser strike.” Another Acela train was sent about an hour and a half later to carry passengers on to Washington.
