Annual fall festivals hit Roxborough and Germantown
Ideal fall weather made way for festivals and events all over Northwest Philadelphia this weekend.
In Roxborough, the fourth annual Harvest on Henry at Saul High School brought families and friends together for a day of fun on the farm.
In Germantown, the Awbury Arborteum also held its second annual Harvest Festival.
Live music, food trucks, hayrides, Halloween-inspired games, a petting zoo and farmstand were just some of the activities available at Saul. Harvest on Henry is put together each year by W.B. Saul High School and Weavers Way Farms.
Amidst the all the action farm manager, Nina Berryman, was on hand overseeing the day and enjoying herself.
“What I love about this festival is the fact that Henry’s Got Crops! is a partnership farm — many different communities and organizations come together to make our farm work and this is a day when all those different communities, organizations and neighborhoods can enjoy the space and celebrate together.”
Meanwhile at Awbury, a flea market of local vendors, fresh pressed cider from the Philly Orchard Project, pumpkin painting and hayrides were just some of the activities friends and neighbors enjoyed.
The Arboretum’s Teen Leadership Corps, a program designed to teach teens and young adults clean eating and cooking while building leadership skills, was on site serving fall-inspired treats.
Heather Zimmerman, program director of Awbury Arboretum was pleased with the day’s success, which she said doubled in size from last year’s event.
“Our intent is for this day to be a low-cost way for the community to get together. Many people, some who actually live in the neighborhood, don’t know all that we have back here in the Arboretum. This is a day for us to give back and bring our friends and neighbors together.”
